It is quick and easy to create a Twitter account, but what happens then?  How do you use it?  How do you find people to follow?  And, once you have found those followers, what is the best way to communicate with them?

While we understand that people use Twitter in a variety of different ways, at heart Twitter is a service that allows you to instantly connect with people and get a snapshot of what is happening in the world.

At its best, Twitter is a neverending conversation where you can find help, information, answers, services, humor, empathy, friendship and support 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

However, it can also be rife with Spam, ignorance and miscommunication and a complete waste of time. So, today we wanted to compile a quick list of Twitter Do’s and Don’ts to make sure you get the most out of your Twitter experience.

DO:

  • Tweet about your interests
  • Follow real people
  • Reply to your followers
  • Look at the people that your followers follow to find like minded souls
  • Include  a reason WHY you liked the links you’re tweeting
  • Ask questions
  • Ask for feedback
  • Retweet tweets you enjoyed
  • Be you!

DON’T:

  • Send out only links
  • Send out only ads
  • Send the same message repeatedly
  • Follow only celebrities and/or automated services
  • Sell out
  • Be inauthentic
  • Get followers via services that provide large numbers quickly
Share and Enjoy:
  • Digg
  • Sphinn
  • del.icio.us
  • Facebook
  • StumbleUpon
  • Twitter
  • FriendFeed
  • Suggest to Techmeme via Twitter

thanks for this tips. im new at sponsored tweets and I have a question. I know that CPC is cost per click. Does that mean that I only get paid when somebody clicked on the ad? How about the cost per tweet that was mentioned when you sign up? Please advise

@Mom Daughter Style, There are two types of Opportunities in Sponsored Tweets. CPT (Cost Per Tweet)are offered to you directly by the Advertiser and pay you once at the rate you set in your account.

CPC pay you per click at the rate offered in the description. If you do not get any clicks to these links, you do not get paid.

Carri, I love the sharp tips you mentioned in your Do's and Dont's. Well explained! I have no idea where my followers came from seems they are musicians of some sort. I do not follow those twitter who tweet trash and use profanity! I tweet hashtags as experiment and it works! Anyways, thanks for this upbeat tips!

SponsoredTweets is good but you Guys can improve the service way better in the future. Is there any special feature for Twitter users who have large number of followers? Cause I have 23000 followers :)

I usually tweet out important news updates from 3-4 genres but I feel the awesome offers draws more follower attention ;)

    Cheerz!

Hi @Carri Nice writeup here. I am having trouble communicating with others on Twitter and your post helps a lot. As a matter of fact, I have started a question on Tweetarm (a Twitter tool) about this and I hope someone like you can summarize your thoughts at http://www.tweetarm.com/question/191/How+to+have+an+engaging+and+meaningful+conversation+with+others+on+Twitter
