Being a platform built on Twitter, fast communication is an essential part of our system. We want Tweeters and Advertisers to choose how they’ll be notified about alerts from SponsoredTweets in a way that is best for them. One of the most exciting notification avenues we offer is Notifo.
What is Notifo?
According to their website:
Notifo is a way for users to receive mobile notifications for anything. Services integrate with the Notifo API and send users notifications about events, announcements, whatever!
We think Notifo is a great way to get instant notifications to users, especially in time-sensitive systems like SponsoredTweets. Whenever you would otherwise get a DM or an email from SponsoredTweets, you can choose to receive a Notifo notification instead.
Who can use Notifo
Advertisers and Tweeters can both use Notifo to receive notifications. The only requirement is that you have a Notifo account, and a device that Notifo supports. At the moment Notifo only works on iPhone, but support for BlackBerry and Android are coming soon. Tweeters will get notifications about new offers, and immediate notifications when they have to take action to complete an offer. Advertisers will get notifications when they need to approve an offer. (note: we recommend advertisers that are making bulk offers select “daily email” rather than receive individual emails.)
How do I setup Notifo?
Head over to Notifo and register a new user account if you don’t have one already. Next download Notifo for iPhone from the iTunes store and install it on your phone. You’ll need to run it once and put in your Notifo username and password.
Back on SponsoredTweets, you can create a new account and specify your Notifo handle, or you can login to your account and pull up your “My Account” page. We’ve added another option in “notify via” dropdown for “Notifo”. Select Notifo, enter your Notifo username and hit submit.
You should receive a notification on your iPhone prompting you to allow SponsoredTweets to send you Notifo notifications. If you allow us, all your notifications will come through over Notifo. If you refuse we’ll fallback on email or Twitter direct message.
Why not just use Direct Message?
We’re trying to draw down the number of DM’s we send due to Twitters limits on how many DMs users can send per day. Even with a whitelisted account such as @spontwts, we still bump up against some of Twitters rate limits. Notifo is a potential fix for that, and we believe offers Tweeters and Advertisers a great alternative.
